Clinical significance of test

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute phase protein. Levels in the blood are known to increase dramatically in response to tissue damage or inflammation. It can rapidly increase about a thousand times within 4-6 hours, and rapidly decrease to normal levels once infection or damage has reduced.
