PCT Test Kit

BackDuration: 10 minutes

Aids the diagnosis and management of severe bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections

Clinical significance of test

Procalcitonin (PCT) is the precursor of the hormone calcitonin and is predominantly produced by cells within the thyroid.  The blood of healthy individuals contains very low levels of PCT. Following pro-inflammatory stimulation (e.g. systemic bacterial infection), PCT levels increase which causes an inflammatory response, indicating severe bacterial, fungal, parasitic infections, sepsis and multiple organ failure.

Steps of operation
